What are CommunicationSystems?
Let’s first formally define what communication systems are. As the name suggests, communication systems is the study of wireless and wired data transfer across different devices. In this field, students study the Radio transmission i.e., FM, AM and other different types of modulation techniques. Alongwith Radio communication, students study Mobile Communication and Internet communication. In mobile communication, also known as telecommunication, students study different 4G, 5G and 6G technologies. In computer communication, students study about different data transfer protocols, cyber security, HTTP, HTTPS, all that kind of stuff.
If you’re a new student in Electrical Engineering, there is almost nothing to learn in your first two years about communication systems because the basics of communication systems is taught in third year. So, even if you learn all kind of stuff about this field early on in your first two years, you’ll start all again from zero in your third year. Hence, it isn’t recommended to study it in the first year. Still, if someone is extra interested in this field or someone joined Electrical Engineering with the sole purpose of joining PTCL, there are a couple of resources attached to this Guide for wireless and wired communication which you can see in your first year.
Getting Started with Communication Systems
-
- RF Communication
The following course sets up the basis for studying the advanced concepts in Radio Frequency. This is the building blocks and foundation of the whole Communication Systems field.
-
- Computer Communication Networks
Following course gives you a deep and comprehensive understanding of almost all the domains inside computer communication networks. You will understand the protocols, data transfer, cyber security, etc., all these topics in depth in the following course. The course is quite lengthy but is worth it for students who are sure about opting for this field.
